Wanping

Wanping is a lighting design for an opera theater in Shanghai, covering 29,000 square meters. The building concept is derived from the folding fan used in Chinese opera. The lighting follows the same concept and expresses the shape and texture of the facade. Adjustable in-ground lights and floodlights reveal the folding form and the curtain wall texture. Inside, adjustable downlights illuminate the fan-shaped wave wall, while linear wall washers brighten vertical surfaces. High color rendering lamps show the colorful opera costumes clearly.

The Union Church

The Union is a lighting design for a church in Shanghai that was founded in 1886 and stands near the Bund. The church was unused for many years and was transformed into a music performance space in 2021. The lighting creates a small and calm spiritual space that also supports performance needs. In-ground wall washers with narrow beams reveal the wall texture and the Gothic arch.

The family is based on two shapes, named Zeppelin and Balloon, which can be used in different applications, sizes and proportions. The design explores the advantages offered by rotational molding technology. The forms refer to inflatable aircraft, to air and to clouds, and express lightness and simplicity. Suspended from the ceiling, the luminaires appear to float inside the interior space.

Magic

Magic is a table lamp inspired by the natural form of the Liberty Cap mushroom. The shade is 3D printed from plant based plastic, and light passing through the shade highlights the spiralling concentric lines left by the printing process. Mushroom like gills under the head are also 3D printed. The stem and base are hand carved from locally sourced hardwood, so every piece is unique. Three brightness levels are selected with a touch sensitive dimmer concealed in the base. The lamp measures 150 by 150 by 650 millimetres.

Cubes

Cubes table lamp has a very clear aesthetic inspired by the architecture of the early 20th century, the Bauhaus and German modernism. Expresses a concept combining light with graphic design, a sculpture of geometric shapes. The lamp consists of three geometric forms stacked in a balanced composition and distinguished by the material, wood. The asymmetric positioning of the forms creates a different profile on each side, a constant rediscovery of the piece. The light fixture is a led circuit with a diffuser, softly distributing the light downwards on two of the volumes.

Magpie

Magpie is a table lamp shaped after a bird with folding wings. The lamp changes between three positions through a single contact button at the base of its cylindrical body. In the first position the wings stay folded and the light is small and soft, which suits use beside a bed. In the second position the head rises and the light becomes brighter, which suits office and study use. In the third position the wings open fully and a wider area is lit. The body is made of metal with a gold finish, and the shade is made of a translucent material.
